If you want the highest levels of indoor air quality in your home, you should consider getting High Efficient Merv 16 air cleaner. Many people believe that the air filter in their heating and air conditioning (HVAC) system is sufficient, but in reality it may only be removing a fraction of the harmful particles in your air. The worst offenders in your air are the mold, allergens, dust and bacteria particles as well as some viruses that combine to degrade indoor air quality. An High Efficient Merv 16 Air Cleaner will remove a much higher percentage of these particulates than a standard HVAC filter.

Depending on the specific model you get, it should remove at the minimum 90 percent of harmful particles in the air, often more. You have two main options, which are to either get a portable model for specific rooms, or an HVAC professional may be able to incorporate a whole-house air cleaner into your forced-air system.
